今朝もいつものようにドッグパークに行きました。毎朝と同じルーティンです。ドッグパークに近づくにつれて、仲間の匂いや声がするたびに、私は何度も引っ張って引っ張って。しばらく走り回って、棒が投げられなくなるまで取りに行っていた。ベンチに飛び乗って、棒を投げるより重要なことが何なのか見てみた。そこには、僕が生まれる前の動画が流れていた。ランの向こう側で、もう一人の人間が一人でいるのが見えた。様子を見に近づいてみた。どうやら、その人間は鳥たちと話をしているようだった。
We were at the dog park this morning, like every morning, same routine. I tug and tug as we get closer and I can smell and hear my pack of friends. I ran around a while, fetched the stick until it stopped getting thrown. I hopped up on the bench to see what was more important than throwing the stick. I saw these videos. I saw another human alone on the far side of the run. I went over to check. Seemed this human was chatting with the birds.

Someone knew them, maybe know about the bird chats and called them, Orno, over to the bench, to watch the old videos. I pranced along behind, hopped on the bench and watched along. I should admit, I love watching movies. My favourite movie is Isle of Dogs, a futuristic story of a boy searching for his lost dog.

They get to chatting about the videos and they show them to me!? I tilt my head like I do when I entertain them and pretend not to understand. They show me these new inventions, new ideas for being more dog.
Here are my reviews of the five ideas. Caveat, I might have misunderstood something.

This one allows you to cosmetically alter yourself and your animal family to look more alike or look like a celebrity. I don’t know, we already look a lot alike - that’s what people keep saying. I have good hearing and that’s what I hear them whispering.

This one is awesome. I’d totally wear it. The piece on the right is a drone. The piece on the left is a nice collar with chemical contraption. The drone can take me for a walk and the collar thing emits a scent to attract others - like remote dating. I mean I already smell my friends and foes everywhere and leave my own traces for them. Not sure how the humans do this.

Love this. I get to ride with the window down as much as I like. It’s a delivery service that takes me wherever I need to go, autonomously. With treats, blanket, water, total heaven.

Nope. This is a trick. They think we won’t notice, but these supposed smart devices are dumb. I know I go crazy for peanut butter Kong but I’m not going to fall for a bone or stick with embedded tech to teach my good behaviour.

Now! Yes! Love love love. I get to be with my buddy in a spa and they have to be like me! Do what I do, like I do it. Can you imagine how great that will be? I love my kennel people, but this spa for us genius. I hope we can watch movies.

We already have all these things going for us: we are family now, they call themselves parents of us, some hotels like us, we can go on the airplane, doctor’s officially call us companions, during covid so many found homes and buddies, drones galore, I’m in a lot of selfies, I heard another dog’s buddy was in an AI relationship, there’s already autonomous services, delivery, and more!

彼らが何かぶつぶつ言ったり、議論したりしているのが聞こえた。時々、それが何なのかよく分からないこともある――私たち犬が遊んでいる時みたいにね。騒がしくなったり、慌ただしくなったり、めちゃくちゃになったり、混乱したりするんだ。最初は遊んでいるつもりだったのに、そのうち誰かが攻撃的になったり、様子がおかしくなったり、あまりに直接的だったり、急に動き出したりして、場の雰囲気が一変してしまう……そうすると、もう終わりだ。人間たちが私たちを引っ張ったり、介入したり、怒鳴ったりするし、誰かが噛まれたりすると、本当にあっという間に終わってしまう。警戒を怠らず、相棒を守らなきゃ。
I heard them mumbling about or debating, hard to tell sometimes - like when we dogs play it can get loud and frantic and crazy and confusing because we thought we were playing and then one of us gets aggressive or sideways or too direct or sudden movements and the whole vibe shifts…and its over, the humans yank or step in or yell at us, or someone gets nipped and then its really over quickly. Gotta be vigilant, protect my buddy.
さて、どこまで話していたっけ？ ああ、友人が「オープン・フォレスト」「ダーク・フォレスト」「主権」「オープンソース」「プライベート・ウェブ」……「ボトムアップ」について何か言っていたのを聞いた。中でも「ボトムアップ」という言葉が最も明確だった。他の二人は、北の方で何か新しい動きがあることや、コミュニティの富の構築に関する政府の施策について話していた。どちらも私にはとても魅力的に聞こえた。森も大好きだし、自分のコミュニティも大好きだ。
So, where was I? Oh, I heard my buddy saying something about open-forest, dark-forest, sovereignity, open-source, private web…bottom up. That was the most clear phrase bottom-up. The other two were sharing some new thing up north, top-down, governmental act about community wealth building. Both of these sounded great to me. Love forests, love my community.
