Communal Heirloom Collages : Amble of the Giant Trees

Queridos vecinos,
Wednesdays are visual and generative days. I have invented a creative challenge to imagine and express ideas for possible communal heirlooms. These collages function as sacrificial concepts. They take maybe 10-15min to create so there is not precious attachment to them, even if they are fun and we should def do them! They are a prompt, a starting point. They are provocations to expand our creativity about what could be with the hope that we explore and surprise ourselves with something even better than we can imagine. Each week we explore a different category - actually the space between two categories, putting them into a relationship. Because, why not. It has inspired a lot of ideas so far. Today I explored the space between earth/tierra and flora/flora.
Los miércoles son días visuales y generativos. He inventado un reto creativo para imaginar y expresar ideas sobre posibles reliquias familiares comunes. Estos collages funcionan como conceptos sacrificiales. Creative Challenge

terroir, soil, grain, minerals, nitrogren, roots, mycellium, clay, stones, rhizomes, secret life of trees, ecosystems, tiny forests, entropy, flows, cycles, seasons, capillary, tissue, bark, photosynthesis, dropping leaves, changing color, coning, buds, blooming, mushrooms are a bloom, species, monocultures, the speed of trees, the time of a tree, girasoles, sunflowers, grapevines, tap roots, contextual, ambient, adopt a tree, social life of trees app, parade of trees, parade of gigantes, parade of giant plants, parade of a huerta/garden, rammed earth walls, mushroom bricks, terracotta, plant names, girasole, bird of paradise, Spanish moss, three sisters gardening, reciprocal care, rituals, harvest, old growth…
The Collages
Thingness - Amble of the Giant Trees / Ambladura de Arboles - made of re-used and recycled materials, these giant tree costumes are worn one tree per person. Inspired by the long history of gegants or gigantes in this region. Typically the giants are people occasionally a falcon. I’ve never seen them as plants. In my neighborhood there is an infamous oak tree. It was almost cut down but the neighbors intervened and occupied the property. After many years, it survives and is a park.
Hechos con materiales reutilizados y reciclados, estos disfraces de árbol gigante se usan en un árbol por persona. Inspirados en la larga historia de los gigantes en esta región. Normalmente, los gigantes son personas, a veces un halcón. Nunca los he visto como plantas. En mi barrio hay un roble infame. Casi lo talaron, pero los vecinos intervinieron y ocuparon la propiedad. Después de muchos años, sobrevive y es un parque.Perpetual Stewardship - The assembly process could be similar to the collection of materials done each summer for the neighborhood fiesta. Construction and community. For the event, I imagine an extremely slow procession of these giant trees through the streets. Streets without trees or with only a few trees. A shuffle, amble. There is a word in english, to lumber. Seems appropriate. Maybe in autumn, after the trees have shed their leaves. Its an annual ritual of sending the trees off to sleep, to be dormant, through the winter. Ideally they are not burned or discarded. If they could be disassembled like artificial xmas trees, that would be better. Maybe each year new sections are added. Maybe some of it is composted and used for mulch. Or they are disassembled and the different limbs, fractals of the larger whole, reside on the rooftops of the neighborhood throughout the year.
El proceso de ensamblaje podría ser similar a la recolección de materiales que se realiza cada verano para la fiesta del barrio. Construcción y comunidad. Para el evento, imagino una procesión extremadamente lenta de estos árboles gigantes por las calles. Calles sin árboles o con solo unos pocos árboles. Un arrastrar, caminar. Hay una palabra en inglés, talar. Parece apropiado. Tal vez en otoño, después de que los árboles hayan perdido sus hojas. Es un ritual anual de enviar a los árboles a dormir, a estar inactivos, durante el invierno. Idealmente no se queman ni se desechan. Si pudieran desmontarse como árboles de Navidad artificiales, eso sería mejor. Tal vez cada año se agreguen nuevas secciones. Tal vez una parte se composte y se use como mantillo. O se desmontan y las diferentes ramas, fractales del todo mayor, residen en los tejados del vecindario durante todo el año.
Thingness - Sunflower Dance / Baile de los Girasoles - similar idea to the trees but the procession is very lively with lots of spins and twirling. The name for sunflower is girasole which literally means turn to the sun. These giants could be lightweight using helium balloons inside the flower suspending the green stalk, so dancers can move easily.
La idea es similar a la de los árboles, pero la procesión es muy animada, con muchos giros y piruetas. El nombre del girasol es girasole, que literalmente significa girar hacia el sol. Estos gigantes pueden ser ligeros, utilizando globos de helio dentro de la flor que suspenden el tallo verde, para que los bailarines puedan moverse con facilidad.Perpetual Stewardship - Construction would be a community affair. Because they are lightweight they can be easily rolled up and stored away. This would be a summer event. It could be an installation also. A field of these occupying a plaza for a weekend. Turning slowly tracking the sun…while providing shade below.
La construcción sería un asunto comunitario. Gracias a su ligereza, se pueden enrollar y guardar fácilmente. Sería un evento de verano. También podría ser una instalación. Un campo de estos ocuparía una plaza durante un fin de semana. Girando lentamente siguiendo el sol… mientras proporcionaban sombra.
