Quick note today to double-down on yesterday’s post about AI hype.
Never forget that it’s people doing this. It’s all people.
The primary tactic to help us thrive amid disorder, ambiguity, and unpredictable change is to remember it’s just people doing this.
Robots taking over, AI taking your jobs. It is not inevitable.
Remember the Cheat Sheet, always receive a person, their promise, by appreciating their context. Why do they make these forecasts, promises, or fear-mongering? Who benefits? They do.

Robots do not "decide" to replace workers. Executives do. Boards do. Investors do.
Technological inevitability is an extremely effective political cover. It is also the laziest cop-out.
Every time you hear “X is our inevitable future,” someone is selling you snake oil AND getting away with something.
Al is not descending upon us as preordained destiny. Beneath all the hype and near-religious sci-fi mythology, it is always people making decisions, people's interests directing those decisions, people positioned to capture the gains, people with power to choose what — or who — is acceptable as “collateral damage”.
"Human nature" is another convenient excuse. Whose nature? Shaped by which culture, rewarded by which incentives?
Our evolutionary history — and the living systems we remain part of — hold far more examples of cooperation, reciprocity and symbiosis than the narrow story we keep being sold. We have better examples, and we are capable of imagining and designing better: a world that is wondrous without pretending to be perfect — a world we would actually want to inhabit.
